Artscape - May 6, 2013

So much beauty in this timeless place, the land, architecture, people, yet somehow it is the art that keeps pulling me to notice most and to play with photos. Siena is full of gorgeous medieval paintings, almost too many, so today I was captivated by a preliminary sketch of a couple of cheerful cherubs and, of course, Caravaggio's young St. John the Baptist. Here is an example of genius ahead of his time and too wild and out of control to live long. I am grateful for what he left.
