Tango Fundamentalism - November 10, 2017
Been feeling this in my bones for some time but the contour is becoming more clear. Argentine Tango danced as if it were the 1950's is the preferred ethos for many dancers, especially older ones taught by teachers who believe in traditional values of male dominance and female submission.
But it's more complicated than that, as life tends to be as things change, and some of us rebel. Not from the concept of lead and follow, but from the straight jacket of who can lead, the dominance outside of the dance, the control of expression of the follow, the values that drive choice of partner etc.
Here's Vio, tango guru, and rebel. Go Vio!
