Will Opera be Saved? - February 1, 2018

The little Minor Theatre in  Arcata has started showing the Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcasts of the current season.

Grigolo and Yoncheva
Last night we saw Puccini's Tosca and it was stupendous! I didn't expect this to be such a moving experience, but the performers on screen and close up were fine actors, the stage sets unbelievable, and the extras of interviews and viewing of the backstage set changes was an entire episode in its own right.

Such an expensive undertaking as opera with aging audiences is in dire need of revitalizing and this approach makes it available across the globe. I hope others are appreciating it too. There are six more to come this season. A wonderful pick-up for mid-winter blahs.
