Being Human

I've been contemplating what it means to be human and moving into lighter territory is more interesting. Since we are essentially porous bags of disparate microbes wandering around the place, shedding ourselves bit by bit in the meanderings, consuming environmental components, it does beg the question of where we start and end. Are we more environment than self? I am in the good company of others who ponder likewise.

I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world.
I may not complete this last one
but I will give myself to it.

I circle around God, around the primordial tower.
I’ve been circling for thousands of years
and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?

- Rainer Maria Rilke

... an egret? an egret's reflection?
