Relative - December 26, 2013

In the world of art, color is the most relative aspect as our visual system can't hold specific colors (hue, value, intensity) in memory as can be done with other perceptions. I am loving studying Joseph Alber's Interaction of Color and it's related iPad app. which is marvelous for learning/playing. He uses words and instruction sparingly, rather encouraging experimentation and exploration and thereby learning first hand. Ditch the color theories. Yes!

Color is so influenced by it's near neighbors and context that magic occurs. The first exercises are related to making the same color look different by surrounding it with other colors. Here are examples of these:
