Not Black and White - May 1, 2015
Nothing's all black and nothing's all white - Sondheim and Sarah Stauffer - wise ones I respect. And today was more evidence as I rowed for the second time after the plunge. The first time was not enjoyable, queasy, uneasy, but today in a sturdy, wider, shorter, beginner boat, Huck Finn's raft compared to the sleek and graceful racers, was a different story. The rowing was harder, the boat slower, and the stability much appreciated. I could relax, not fearful that any stroke could toss me in, and enjoy the sunning seals, including young ones, and the birds ... and I felt at home again. Humbled but not undone. I am grateful.
