Opera, Oh My - December 7, 2017
The two choices this year could not have been more different. John Adams contemporary Girls of the Golden West is spot on thematically with what is going down in America today, sadly, but the ever increasing anxious unrelenting tone of the music left no respite in a long show that ended badly.
But then David Hockney's set design, and the fantasy, crazy, but joyfully ending Tourandot, Puccini's last opera saved the day. A feast of color, design, and music that touched my deepest core, sung by brilliant singers. Well worth the high price tag.
"His name is Love". Brava!
We really liked Toni Marie Palmertree who sang Liu.
