We Are All Survivors - December 22, 2017
I've been touching in with my family heritage from the Ukraine and reading about the nightmares of brutality that marched endlessly across this little patch of earth, connected to the massive atrocities in that wider part of the world in Stalin's name and it begs the question - how can people do this to one another?
And that makes me realize that when we become so disconnected to others as "other", we do not see them as human, or even as creature but as objectified evil to be annihilated.
And we are all capable of this.
In fact we are beginning this process anew with liberal vs conservative in this country, refusing to see the humanity contained within the other.
Last night we participated in a recent Solstice ritual of "Burning the Bitch", the place to throw one's anger from the year, and onto the pile went an ugly effigy of our president to the delight of attendees.
If we are alive today, our ancestors near or far back have had to outlive unimaginable brutalities or our blood line would have been lost.
