The Real Virus

NYT photo
This country is sick and dying at the core and corona is but a small abscess on the surface. The immune system is unlikely to prevail over the rot.
We hold onto our delusions of American exceptionalism which yes, it exists as unbridled consumption that feeds the cancer of separation, personal rights over collective integrity, inhumanity, racism, environmental devastation, extreme stupidity, cowardice. We are a pox on the planet.
I am beyond grief and wailing in taking in our own self destructive and corrupt ways and knowing that they infect and poison the rest of the globe as we assuage our complicity with blind hopeful chatter.
New Zealand, you must immunize yourself against the American Virus.
Shame on this culture of hatred, shame, shame, shame.

I agree that there can be no end to the grief we feel as we witness all the defiling isms you listed va and the rot at the center of industrialized profit motived un democratic society we live in.
This could become an endless bottomless pit but at some point I’ve had to rise up and offer what I can to the healing of our precious aching planet which is why I am helping the indigenous Mamos of Colombia buy back a land that has mountains and streams and a river they need to decontaminate. Since we succeeded in getting the landowner to say yes to them, the bulldozers have left and the Mamos are replanting trees and talking to the mt and water spirits and on Monday my donation of $5800 will allow them to sign papers with lawyers present to put the first hectares into their ownership. Friends have donated $1800 so far to my non profit Global Healing Foundation which will keep building to allow them in five months to pay for the rest of the land $13,000 or more (50 million Colombian pesos). I feel at last that I can make a small dent of goodness in our sorry world where the indigenous as well as Mother Earth and women in general have been disrespected, suppressed or worse. This is one bright spot.
