Joy and Grief - June 4, 2014
I have noticed this before at times of great grief, that joy can be there right by its side in almost equal measure, creating a sparkle and depth to the experience of emotional states. At this time in my life as I get educated on the impacts of climate change and allow myself to really take it in, there are moments of deep grief at the loss of species, habitat, and experiences that cannot be recovered, that are lost for good (as is every moment that passes, I also notice). And at the same time I can experience a walk in the redwood forest or a day in the studio as a joyous and celebratory occasion, and note that there is much to come that I can't even imagine.
