Downhill? - January 27, 2018
We just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary, together now 42 years, and chose to do it at home just with each other sharing what we cherish about each other's company and reflecting on where we've been.
Sarah asked "don't you get bored" and I must say that has never occurred to me within our relationship and given that boredom is a distinct negative for me, it's just as well.
I appreciate the space for exploration we've always had, but also the increasing compatibility over the years that is just comfortable, like a well worn dance floor, a pair of leather shoes that can't be replaced - it's the years of walking on, in, and together that make the wearing in a thing that can only happen by walking the walk.
Sarah's question makes me wonder when and if there's a turn, a downhill, a grumpiness that sets into a long relationship or do we just keep sliding and bumping along like river worn stones, our edges smooth and rounded and not so easily catching on challenges anymore?
