Searing Reality - September 26, 2013

Just saw the opera, Dolores Claiborne, adapted from a Stephen King novel, a potent and moving drama of incest, domestic violence, hatred, and loneliness in a contemporary setting, and though the music was odd, the performance was dynamic and the overall impact deep. I found myself pondering the question "why do people torture each other when the choice to do otherwise has such a better outcome?" The audience reaction was mixed and interesting, some of us moved to leap to ovation (me) and others sitting stoically, though many stood as the applause continued. Also hard to muster the energy to clap after such an emotionally wrought performance.

I really don't have art to accompany this motif, so confusion will have to do.
