Having struggled with titles for paintings, and mostly avoided them, I'm beginning to understand why. The paintings want to connect in the world, and the more I try to control or button down the content of the connection by affixing a label, the less alive it is. An interested viewer sees their own painting, they literally create it in their own mind, and there is appreciation of a shared event of seeing, though the reality is different for each. Even when I look at it at different times it speaks differently and a title today wouldn't work on another day.
