What a Mess - May 28, 2016

Working in Redwood Community Forest on cleaning up unauthorized camping sites brought a stark comparison to mind, that of human waste management compared to the forest's way of dealing with waste and renewal ... and there is no contest. Forest is beautiful, efficient, even elegant in recycling, and we are not. While some people expressed anger at the campers I left feeling more anguished by the fact that likely every one of the volunteers creates more environmental damage than campers do, just more acceptably so. And it leaves me feeling sad about the human blight on the planet and wondering if we are somehow outside of nature - overly domesticated. I can and often do argue both sides of this one, but not today.
