Zen, Zen, And Zen Again -September 30, 2012
In Kyoto temples, those bastions of male domination of women, trees, stones, pebbles, even lichen and moss, a tiny heart breaking sculpture of Kannen, Goddess of Mercy, tucked between two scowling massive masters, receives no mention in the temple literature, patiently applies her mercy and waits. Sadly no photos allowed inside, but the gardeners of tiny things were fair game as they tweeze out the "wrong" lichens.
