Women Rocking the Universe - July 17, 2016

Been reading about women astrophysicists who have made important contributions to our understanding of the universe.  Maria Mitchell was the first American astronomer and discovered a comet. Henrietta Swan Leavitt's discovery of Cephiad variable stars helped Edwin Hubble determine that the universe is expanding. Vera Rubin's galaxy rotation curves discovery lead to the theory of dark matter. Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered pulsars which opened the door to black holes. And Janna Levin has written an engaging current book called Black Hole Blues and Other Songs from Outer Space describing the discovery of gravitational waves predicted by Einstein.

Then Ben Folds decides to "rock this bitch" in a song called When Black Holes Collide. This is encouraged by and posted by Brain Pickings brilliant and connected Maria Popova.
