Slough (rhymes with blue) Jewels - October 5, 2011

Traveling through Saskatchewan, I’ve been bedazzled by the sapphire sparkling of the prairie sloughs, edged with emerald and garnet foliage, and surrounded by the light blond palette of drying wheat grasses, all shrouded by vast pale blue sky. I feel hungry to keep drinking in these colors and to use them in a painting once I stop traveling enough to do so. Betsy thinks it’s the minerals in the water that gives the color, which is so much more intense than a reflection of sky color.

This adventure into the past is even more delightful than anticipated. It is alive and fresh, present, and new.
