view of Brooklyn Bridge
A mere eight hours after leaving NYC at 10 pm I emerged in Salisbury England to almost similar weather - lovely, but very different decibel experiences. Yesterday was an eleven mile day from midtown to Brooklyn via the Manhattan Bridge with trains constantly screaming by right beside us as I walked and talked (and yelled) with a friend for hours. The thing we both love to do.

But here on the other side of the pond, the loudest things are the birds. The Evensong service at the most famous cathedral in England, the 800 year old Salisbury Cathedral was opposite to my Sunday gospel experience in every way - measured, subdued, serious, contemplative, all male participants (religious leaders, men and boys choir members) but lovely nonetheless and the organ was magnificent.

The achingly quaint town offered one of my favorite luxuries - a deep bathtub with a window and I indulged after the service, soaking in warmth and sun. A treat after a travel night and full day.
