Changing Conditions - November 18, 2016

More nautical metaphors arose from this morning's row. We started with smooth waters pastel tinged with morning light, some cloud drama behind the bridge, a sun drenched quartet of hand-painted black and white birds, heron elegance, and friendly seal faces bobbing nearby.

On the way back everything changed. The wind kicked up, followed shortly by waves and along with the tide and currents all forces aligned in the wrong direction. For the first time I wondered if my oars would be able to overcome these forces to steer me in my preferred direction ... back to the dock. A few waves breached the shallow hull, rinsing legs with chilly brine. Slowly and carefully we pulled our way back to land grateful for adventure and safety and reminding us that conditions can change in a moment.
