Musing - November 6, 2016
In an effort to have an election free day, I attended a women's retreat and was rewarded far beyond that hope. There were various practitioners and a structure that lead me into Greek mythology in my exploration of how to bring more yin energy into the world.
First the Siren's whose song calls sailors to their deaths on their shoals. And after reading Margaret Atwood's poem below made me realize that earth has Siren Songs that have called us to feast on her fruits to the point where we are gorged with consuming and she depleted. Quite a sad image ... but then the myth goes on that there was a contest between the Sirens and the Muses and the Muses won, thank goodness. Sirens became white rocks in the sea.
And as for the Muses and bringing more yin into the world, that remains to be seen...

Siren Song
This is the one song everyone
would like to learn: the song
that is irresistible: the song
that forces men
to leap overboard in squadrons
even though they see the beached skulls
the song nobody know
because anyone who has heard it
is dead, and the others can't remember.
Shall I tell you the secret
and if I do will you get me
out of this bird suit?
I don't enjoy it here
squatting on this island
looking picturesque and mythical
with these two feathered maniacs.
I don't enjoy singing
this trio, fatal and valuable.
I will tell the secret to you,
to you, only to you.
Come closer. This song
is a cry for help: Help me!
Only you, only you can
you are unique
at last. Alas
it is a boring song
but it works every time.
