La Ville Lumière - October 17, 2016
City of light indeed. Originally referring to the city of ideas and enlightenment, then first gas lit streets, I'm with the Impressionists in noticing that there's something about the light here. Is it related to open city spaces, green areas, latitude, moisture? Can't be air quality since that has changed enormously, better now than for centuries.
Visited the Musee de L'Orangerie today and enjoyed the Monet water lilies but was most fascinated by seeing tiny areas up close through the camera lens which has the effect of creating a separate abstract paintings as well as cleaning and brightening a surface that needs such treatment. Then I played with them further. I love his last works the most where with fading vision it all became about abstract color play.
